The Ryan Family Tree 1939, page 12 states: "Timothy Donovan, son of John Donovan, and Helen Hayes of County Cork, Ireland and Margaret Sullivan, youngest daughter of Terence Finnegan and Catherine Sullivan, of County Kerry, Ireland were married at Sault St. Marie, Michigan on August 22, 1847. (This is Grandma Ryan's father and mother)."
A certified copy of their marriage certificate was obtained from Chippewa County, Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan under date of November 16, 1992. The certified copy had numerous spelling errors of names and states in part: '***the following is a copy of the record of marriage of Timothy Donaven and Margaret Finigen, record number A-70" It shows that Timothy Donaven was 27 years old, residence Lake Superior and Margaret Finigen, age 18 and residence Lake Superior.
The father of Timothy is shown as "John Donaven" and mother as "Helen Hays" The father of Margaret is shown as "Immia Finigen" and mother as "Catharina Soloman"
The date of marriage is shown as Aug. 22, 1847, and married by L. B. Minnit, Catholic Missionary
The witnesses to the marriage were Edmon Fasley, Thomas Beacher, Patrick Leahy and Richard Fasley
